Match the machine to the demand.
A fixed-speed compressor runs at full speed regardless of demand, venting energy when air is not needed. A variable speed drive (VSD) compressor adjusts its motor speed to match actual demand.
In applications with variable demand, a VSD typically reduces energy consumption by 20 to 50% compared to a fixed-speed machine of equivalent capacity. We can model the payback for your usage profile before you commit.
There is a difference between oil removal and no oil
Oil-injected compressors with downstream filtration can achieve very low oil carryover, but cannot guarantee zero contamination without additional treatment. Oil-free machines have no oil in the compression stage at all.

Oil-free piston
Bambi oil-free piston compressors are the standard choice for dental surgeries, medical facilities and small laboratories. The UK-built VT range uses tilting piston technology for very low noise.
When do you actually need oil-free?
Not every application requires it, and specifying it where it is not needed adds cost. It is a requirement, or the only reliable way to manage risk, for:
- Food and beverage where air contacts product or primary packaging
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Medical and dental compressed air
- Electronics manufacturing and precision assembly
- PET bottle blowing and cleanroom environments
- Any process requiring ISO 8573-1 Class 0

The most stringent purity designation: oil content held to a level more stringent than any defined class, as agreed between user and supplier.
Atmospheric air already carries traces of oil vapour, so extra filtration is often specified even on oil-free systems. We carry out air quality testing to ISO 8573-1 and provide purity class documentation for audits.
